Senator Pacquaio graces Maitum’s 15th Bangsi fest
MAITUM, Sarangani (January 29, 2022) – Senator Manny Pacquiao attends the culmination ceremony of the 15th Bangsi Festival on January 28 at the Municipal gymnasium. Pacquiao was accompanied by Mayor Alexander Bryan Reganit (right) and Vice Mayor Tito Balazon Sr. (left) during his arrival as the guest speaker of the closing program. Officials grace Bangsi Festival
MAITUM, Sarangani (January 29, 2022) – On behalf of Governor Steve Chiongbian Solon, Board Member Jess Bascuña delivers his festival message on January 28 during the culmination ceremony of the 15th Bangsi Festival at the municipal gym. Bascuña extended his gratitude to all the members of the Local Government Unit of Maitum headed by Mayor Alexander Bryan Reganit, Vice Mayor Tito Balazon and all the Sangguniang Bayan members for the success of the celebration. Bascuña emphasized the valuable role of fisherfolks in the harmony of the bountiful seas as “source of livelihood, and the responsibility to preserve and protect the environment.” He said “this festival is also a celebration of Maitumians’ deep gratitude to the bountiful harvest of the bangsi and the resilience of the people of Maitum despite the challenges brought by the pandemic.” The culmination activity was also attended by Board Members Rosemarie Sayo, Russel Jamora, George Falgui and Senator Manny Pacquiao. Mayor Reganit thankful for success of 15th Bangsi Festival

Maitum pays tribute to marinated bangsi pioneers
MAITUM, Sarangani (January 29, 2022) – The local government unit of Maitum acknowledges the pioneers of its One Town, One Product, the marinated flying fish, on January 28 at the Municipal gymnasium during the culmination ceremony of the 15th Bangsi Festival. Mayor Alexander Bryan Reganit and Vice Mayor Tito Balazon Sr., together with Senator Manny Pacquiao, led the presentation of plaques of recognition to the pioneers of the first-ever marinated flying fish, especially the local men who do the fishing, and women who do the processing of bangsi. Bangsi, Maitum’s most valued catch, has provided an opportunity for development to small and medium enterprises, and financial stability to thousands of households who depend on the fishing industry as their main source of livelihood. Now, the famous marinated bangsi has become the most sought-after pasalubong for tourists and visitors in the municipality. Barangay Old Poblacion’s bet wins Maitum’s first boat making competition
MAITUM, Sarangani (January 29, 2022) – Roger Laguindam and Maymay Escototo’s entry wins Maitum’s first boat making competition on January 27 at the municipal hall. Laguindam and Escototo are locals from Barangay Old Poblacion. During the culmination ceremony of the 15th Bangsi Festival on January 28, Laguindam and Escototo were awarded and took home P10,000. According to Ofelia Valdez, barangay councilor, what made their entry stand out is its clear presentation on the way of life of the fisherfolks in Old Poblacion. “The entry really represents yung boat na ginagamit ng mga fishermen namin sa Old Poblacion which is one of their major tools when fishing especially ng bangsi,” Valdez said. She also commended the Local Government Unit of Maitum for highlighting the said activity. “Through this competition, parang nailalahad na din na ang Old Poblacion ang talagang producer ng bangsi kung saan nagsimula ang marinated bangsi which is now Maitum’s One Town One Product,” she added. Bangsi for free in sugba-sugba sa dalan
MAITUM, Sarangani (January 29, 2022) – Maitumians and tourists enjoyed the freshly grilled bangsi during the “Sugba-Sugba sa Kadalanan” on January 28. The event was one of the highlights of the 15th Bangsi Festival and was done by grilling fresh bangsi in front of the municipal hall. Every coastal barangay that participated in the event prepared grillers and everyone who asked for the grilled bangsi had their share. Bangsi Festival: Pacquiao pays respect to Maitum fisherfolk
MAITUM, Sarangani (January 29, 2022) – Senator Manny Pacquiao graces the culmination ceremony of the 15th Bangsi Festival on January 28 at the municipal gym. In his speech, Pacquiao recalls the years when he was still a fisherman. “Naranasan ko din po ang pangingisda at hindi po simple at madaling trabaho iyon, buhay din ang itataya mo para sa trabahong ito,” Pacquiao said. “Labis-labis ang aking respeto sa ating mga kababayang mangingisda na isa sa may pinakamalaking kontribyusyon lalung-lalo na dito sa Maitum kung kayat ipinagdiriwang natin itong Bangsi Festival,” he added. He also commended the Local Government Unit of Maitum headed by Mayor Alexander Bryan Reganit with the full support of Vice Mayor Tito Balazon and the rest of the Sangguniang Bayan members for the successful celebration of the 15th Bangsi Festival. Team Jhoemar wins Mindanao-wide Men's Volleyball Tournament
MAITUM, Sarangani (January 28, 2022) - Jhoemar All Star triumphs over Juan Heneral after sweeping three of the four sets during the Mindanao-wide Men's Volleyball Tournament on January 27 at the Municipal Gym. Jhoemar All Star bagged the championship trophy and took home P50,000 cash prize after scoring 25-19, 25-22, and 25-21, consecutively on Sets 2,3, and 4. Jhoemar All Star players Alche Gupiteo is awarded Best Spiker while Jordan Bolos wins Best Setter, and Josh Ybañez is hailed Most Valuable Player. Maitum launches first motor show
MAITUM, Sarangani (January 28, 2022) – Mayor Bryan Reganit (right) and Nelson Merculio, municipal budget officer, grace the first Maitum invitational motor show on January 27 at the municipal plaza. The activity was participated in by over 80 entries of different motor enthusiasts from all over the region. The motor show has five categories- thai, stance, modified, dirt and trike. All the top winners from each category received P3,000 and a trophy. James Reganit, organizer of the activity, said that part of the requirements to be among the official entries is the proof of vaccination against Covid-19. “Kinakailangang vaccinated yung owner or yung participant,” Reganit said. “Aside sa kanilang bike entries, vaccination card or certificate yung isa sa mga una naming chini-check before giving them the go signal para i-display yung kanilang entries,” he added. He further said that it is their contribution to the government's initiative to encourage the people to be vaccinated “lalung-lalo na na maraming motor enthusiast dito sa Maitum.” The motor show was part of the highlight activities of the 15th Bangsi Festival which runs from January 24-28. Marinated Bangsi-Maitum’s One Town One Product
MAITUM, Sarangani (January 27, 2022)- A local from Maitum executes the process of cleaning and splitting bangsi (flying fish) into halves also known as “pakas” during the Pakas Bangsi competition on January 26 at Barangay Kiambing. Pakas bangsi is one of the livelihood of the women and the wives of the fishermen of Barangay Old Poblacion where Maitum’s One Town One Product (OTOP) is being produced popularly known as the marinated bangsi. Pakas bangsi is one of the highlight activities during the opening ceremony of the 15th Bangsi Festival along with the lumba bugsay competition, bancarera contest, tura-tura boat contest, and the opening of the Wow Maitum photography contest. The festivity is a tribute to the fisherfolk and celebrates the town’s prosperous fishing industry. The 15th Bangsi Festival runs on January 24-28.
